Why is ‘Board Certified’ Important When Looking for SurgeonsPosted by in Board Certified Plastic Surgeons | Plastic Surgery
Due to the increasing popularity of plastic surgery the number of cosmetic procedures increases every year. If you are looking into a cosmetic procedure, there are several things to take into consideration and generally the last detail new patients look into is finding a physician. When looking for your doctor the most important detail to look for is whether or not the doctor is board certified in plastic surgery.
The reason that it is so important to find a board certified plastic surgeon is because although these procedures are commonly performed, they still pose a certain amount of risks and complications. These risks are amplified when they are performed by people with very little or no plastic surgery training.
There have been so many cases where patients see out bargain basement prices by non-doctors and have had complications that are either too expensive to treat or in many cases are too late or dangerous to treat. The key is to do your homework before choosing the physician to perform the surgery.
Here are 3 ways to check if a doctor is board certified in plastic surgery.
- Ask your doctor if he is board certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
- If your doctor says he is certified, ask for the specialty in which he is certified. The physician should be board certified in plastic surgery and not in any other specialty.
- Look for a certificate in the surgeons office for a seal from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
